B.A. in Liberal Arts

This three-year program, taught entirely in English, provides students with the foundations of a strong Liberal Arts education while empowering them to succeed in an increasingly diverse and complex world. It is designed to motivate students to explore beyond the confines of single disciplines, by offering a broad selection of courses in various fields of the Humanities.

Program Highlights

TAU's Multidisciplinary Program in the Humanities ensures focus by allowing concentrated study in six academic tracks taught by our award-winning faculty: Middle Eastern Studies, Philosophy, Literature, Israel and Jewish Studies, Psychology and Psychoanalysis, and Digital Culture and Communication. Concurrent with their coursework, students deepen their understanding of local and international topics via study trips throughout Israel.

Welcome Prospective Students!

Tel Aviv University offers tremendous resources for international students. The University is a meeting place for students, ideas, and leading thinkers from over all over the globe. TAU graduates serve in a wide range of capacities including government ministers, ambassadors, renowned writers, and leading intellectuals.

Our program’s courses are taught entirely in English by Tel Aviv University’s internationally renowned faculty, distinguished for its excellence in scholarship, its pluralistic approach to teaching, and its position of leadership in the intellectual, cultural, and political life of Israel.  Concurrent with their coursework, students deepen their understanding of local and international topics via study trips throughout Israel.

The TAU Experience

Besides being minutes from beautiful Mediterranean beaches and a vibrant city life, TAU's campus is located near the center of one of the world's hottest cities, known worldwide as a center of creativity, culture, business, and fun.  On campus, students are immersed in a rich atmosphere that cultivates knowledge and creative thinking, where hundreds of international students are carefully integrated into the larger university community of nearly 30,000 students in 125 schools and academic departments.

Tel Aviv University is Israel's largest and top-ranking academic institution, boasting a diverse, dynamic, and colorful student body.  Its faculty comprises nationally and internationally renowned scholars and scientists.  Students and faculty alike flourish in the institution's free and lively atmosphere.

Looking Towards the Future

A Liberal Arts education combines exposure to a broad range of disciplines with an in-depth study of at least one academic field. It aims to provide students with a variety of analytical tools; to develop their intellectual agility, critical thinking skills, and creative power; and to equip them with the ethical sensibilities necessary for living in today’s complex societies.

Liberal Arts graduates are to be found in wide variety of occupations. As many employers now recognize, to be successful in today’s fast-changing workplace, technical training is not enough. Individuals who were trained to think systematically, communicate effectively, and be receptive to new ideas, often fare better than those whose education was more narrowly profession-oriented.

Outstanding student support

Our experienced and student-focused staff are available 24 hours a day to advise, provide practical guidance, and ease our students’ transition into University life, including via continuing academic and social support. The support function begins with Orientation Week and extends throughout the educational journey to include workshops, mentor programs, field trips throughout the country, course advice, and career guidance.

Education valued by employers

In Israel, as elsewhere around the world, recognition of the practical advantages of a Liberal Arts education is growing. Recently, more than 300 top Israeli companies (including IBM, Teva , El Al, and Cellcom) joined similar initiatives around the world by signing an “Employers Pact,” vouching not to favor professional training over humanistic education in their hiring process (except for jobs requiring specific technical skills). The Pact places weight, instead, on the quality of the institution from which the candidate received his/her degree.

Why Liberal Arts at TAU

The international standing of members of the Faculty of Humanities is reflected in their positions of leadership in the academic, cultural and political life of Israel. Public service is a watchword in the Faculty. Several of our lecturers have been elected to the Israel Academy of Science and the Humanities. Six have been award the Israel Prize, the nation's highest recognition for scholarly achievement. In addition, our professors have served as Ambassadors to Spain, Egypt, Jordan, and the United States.
